The Perfect V60 Coffee Brewing Guide: James Hoffman’s Step-by-Step Method

Equipment Needed:

  • V60 dripper (ceramic or plastic preferred for heat retention)
  • V60 paper filter
  • Freshly roasted coffee beans (medium-light roast preferred)
  • Grinder (burr grinder for consistency)
  • Gooseneck kettle (for controlled pouring)
  • Scale (with a timer function)
  • Carafe or mug (to brew into)
  • Thermometer (optional)

Hoffman’s Recipe:

  • Coffee-to-water ratio: 1:16 (15g coffee to 240g water)
  • Grind size: Medium-fine (similar to table salt)
  • Water temperature: 93–96°C (200–205°F)
