Meditation Tips for Beginners
Starting a new habit takes focus, effort and perseverance. A key way to build something like meditation into a successful habit is by planning ahead and making it easier for yourself. The following tips are designed to make starting meditation easier and therefore more achievable.
- Meditation apps: Downloading a meditation app makes getting started as simple as opening your phone and pressing play. Here is a link to a review of two different meditation apps out there, Headspace and Calm. Headspace is what I use and have had incredible success with so far. If there is another meditation app that you use, I would love to hear about it.
- Meditate in the morning: You’re unlikely to forget or put off your daily meditation if it is the first thing in the morning. It is also a great way to have a calm start to your day. I like to do my meditation around the same time that I journal in the morning.
- Build up your practice as you go: As you get used to meditation, start with shorter meditations and extend your sessions as you go. It takes time to train your mind to be comfortable meditating.
- Set up your space for meditation: Our goal in meditation is increasing focus and awareness; the space in which you practice is important in achieving these results. Ensure that the place where you meditate allows you to be comfortable and avoid distraction. Your home can be hectic with…
